Horseshoe and shuffleboard courts
Lanes on the east side of the park, where the clank of shoes on stakes has been a summer sound since 1921.
The story
Horseshoe pits were built in 1921, and the game became one of the park's traditions. The South Dakota State Horseshoe Tournament was held here in 1969 before a large crowd. The game is less popular than it was, and the 2020 master plan notes that Parks and Recreation will look at moving tournaments to Elmwood Park, but the pits are still used. A shuffleboard court sits with them.
